Welcome! As a child, I often played in a brook behind my home and enjoyed looking into the clear cool water at nature's treasures lying beneath the surface. Now, as an adult, I find that same serenity and solace when looking into a pool at the base of waterfalls, as pictured here in Oregon.
The idea to make pondering pools in trays came from this vision. With multiple layers of clear resin, I make designs honoring nature and events. My trays represent shallow streams and tidal pools, or they memorialize events such as weddings and past eras. Sometimes I add words or quotes to motivate, calm, or inspire.
In memorializing events, I use dried flowers, as from bridal bouquets or other ceremonies, and then incorporate tealight or other candle holders. Each layer of resin is cured 24-48 hours, and when I have a sufficient depth, the tray is further cured up to six months before being offered for sale. Depending on the depth and items used, a tray may take three weeks to complete before final curing.
At times I use various rocks and gemstones such as amethyst, onyx, aventurine, jasper, quartz, etc., or dried herbs and grasses such as lavender, thyme, and sage gathered from my garden, the fields around my home, and the places on my journeys. Every time I work on a new piece I am reminded of nature’s wonderful gifts and the peace and serenity of that babbling brook in the woods behind my childhood home.
